Delicious Galapagos Islands Food

Galapagos Islands food is just delicious! All kinds of fish, lobster, and crabs can be enjoyed in the major towns

Seafood is very popular and plentiful in the Islands. All kinds of fish, lobster and sea cucumber can be enjoyed in the major towns like in:

Puerto Ayora in Santa Cruz Island and in the beautiful capital city of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno located in San Cristobal Island

Galapagos food is incredibly diverse, and it is very similar to the Food from Ecuador

This is why you will find dishes from the highlands (meet, potatoes, grains, vegetables) as well as from the Coast of Ecuador (fish, shrimp, yuca).

But I can confidently say that the seafood in Galapagos is just spectacular and fresh. There is also a great variety of fresh fruit and vegetables produced in the Islands.

My best single recommendation is that you try the following dishes: the ceviche (shrimps marinated in lemon and onions), encebollado (a delicious soup with fish), lobsters and the famous sea cucumbers.

galapagos islands foodA Note About Sea Cucumbers

The Galapagos marine life is rich and extraordinary, it is directly related to the life on the Islands of this Archipelago.

Among this incredible marine life we can find the exotic sea cucumber.

The sea cucumber is a traditional Galapagos Islands food. It's a marine organism that lives on the bottom of the sea.

Its size is about 5 inches long and has a dark brown or black color.

The sea cucumber is very important for the marine environment and provides a balance in the food chain of the Galapagos Marine Reserve

According to the Japanese the sea cucumber is one of the best aphrodisiacs.

There are many restaurants available where you can delight a good pizza or a hamburger with French fries, this just in case you don't want to eat the traditional Galapagos Islands food of course.

The price for a common lunch or dinner is of around $2.00 this meal is composed of 2 dishes and a juice drink.

The first dish is a soup and the second one is composed generally of rice with fish or meat and salad.

It is worth mentioning that some exotic fruits brought from Ecuador are also part of the tasty Galapagos Islands food.

Fruits like: naranjilla, tree tomato, blackberry, guanabana, passion fruit, bananas and papaya are all available.

NOTE: Excellent food is served on our recommended Galapagos Island Cruises which is included in the rates.

Every tour offered on this Web Site either Galapagos Land Tours or cruise tours have the higher standards of quality, service and of course good food.

The towns in the Islands are small and there are plenty of Galapagos restaurants to choose from.
